Interdisciplinary Reflection
Throughout my college career, I have come to understand that meaningful storytelling exists at the intersection of disciplines, perspectives, and experiences. My studies in Film, Theatre, and Journalism & New Media have shown me that creativity is most powerful when approached holistically: when technical skill, human understanding, and cultural awareness converge. This insight has not only shaped the projects I have undertaken but also clarified the professional path I intend to pursue.
Film has taught me the importance of visual narrative, pacing, and framing in conveying emotion and meaning. Theatre has cultivated my sensitivity to presence, voice, and collaborative energy. Journalism and New Media have grounded me in research, clarity, and ethical responsibility in communication. The synthesis of these disciplines enables me to approach creative work with both analytical rigor and empathetic insight, skills I consider essential as I move into a professional career in media and entertainment.
One project that significantly shaped my development was a collaborative short film in a film production class. Although the project was limited in scale, it challenged me to integrate skills across disciplines, story development, basic production, and guiding character work with my classmates. Working on this project enhanced my perception of storytelling as a tool not just for entertainment, but for understanding and reflecting human experience. It taught me how collaboration requires listening and adapting, how creative decisions carry ethical responsibility, and how even small-scale projects can provide opportunities to think critically about the stories we tell and the communities they represent. This experience reinforced that combining technical skill, analytical thinking, and empathy can deepen both the quality of a project and my understanding of the world.
Another pivotal project was my podcast, Artificial Influence, which explores the impact of artificial intelligence on the film industry. This is an issue I am deeply passionate about, as AI is rapidly reshaping the creative landscape I hope to enter. Developing the podcast required researching industry trends, interviewing peers and experts, scripting and recording episodes, and editing the audio to communicate ideas clearly. Peer feedback encouraged me to include more personal reflection and to clarify the structure of the episodes, which strengthened both the clarity and the emotional resonance of the podcast. Working on this project reinforced that effective communication is not only about sharing information but about connecting with audiences, inspiring reflection, and engaging them with complex issues. Exploring AI’s role in filmmaking also deepened my understanding of the ethical, creative, and professional challenges facing future media creators, reinforcing my commitment to enter the field with both technical skill and thoughtful perspective.
These experiences have shaped my vision for the future. Professionally, I intend to pursue a career that integrates film production and directing, creative development, digital media, and multimedia storytelling. I aim to create work that is technically precise, culturally informed, and emotionally compelling. I hope to collaborate with other artists, writers, and thinkers who value authenticity, innovation, and ethical responsibility. My goal is to produce media that not only entertains but also provokes reflection, fosters empathy, and engages audiences meaningfully.
I am committed to building a professional identity that reflects interdisciplinary fluency and adaptability. The entertainment industry is evolving rapidly, influenced by technological advances, social shifts, and cultural dialogues. I seek to navigate this landscape with awareness and intentionality, producing work that is responsive to these dynamics while remaining true to artistic and human-centered values. I am particularly drawn to projects that challenge assumptions, elevate underrepresented perspectives, and explore the intersection of creativity and technology.
Ultimately, my college journey has confirmed that a successful career in media and the arts requires both skill and vision. The technical abilities I have developed, combined with critical thinking and cross-disciplinary experience, equip me to contribute meaningfully to the field. More importantly, they have instilled in me a sense of responsibility to create work that is thoughtful, impactful, and socially aware. My professional aspiration is to harness these capacities to craft narratives that resonate deeply, inspire reflection, and engage audiences with integrity and care.
As I transition into the next stage of my career, I carry forward not only the knowledge and skills gained through Film, Theatre, and New Media, but also a commitment to continuous growth, collaboration, and ethical storytelling. I aim to build a professional path that is sustainable, impactful, and creatively fulfilling, allowing me to contribute to a media landscape that values authenticity, cultural awareness, and meaningful artistic expression.
